Tanking is fail.
But basically it revolves around you running slightly ahead of the rest of the group, rounding them up so they're all on you, allow your casters to come in to the edge of the aggro circle, and blow things up while you spam shitty skills.

Some of this is obsolete, but the mechanics haven't changed.

On topic: Tanking has pretty much come to an end with the new AI, but if you PUG with smart people (good luck...) you might be able to hold aggro for the first 5-10 seconds of battle.

Tanking is dead, so I run Shock Axe of all builds in PvE. >_<
I still get complaints for not tanking in places like Nahpuli or Sunjiang. Too bad players realize I can't tank a ranged unit if they decide to change targets.

I for one am glad that tanking is dead. I hated the fact that a majority people expected warriors to do nothing but sit there spamming defense skills, warrior as a class can do so much more than that.

Tanking is mostly useless, but in DOA there is a fine art to it. Learning how to hold monsters on corners, dragging the melee to the enemy backline so all enemies are within Meteor Shower's nearby radius, not dying vs 12 level 28 Touchers with +50% damage boost... takes a bit of skill thats outside the purpose of this conversation.
Just play a hammer warrior or something.

For a war I find its important to be the first to pull the mob, thereby aquirring agro.
IF your casters stay outside of your agro circle untill the all the monsters have attacked you at least once they can usually come close and not be instantly attacked. However once they begin to attack they will draw some agro, use skills that criple or slow to keep melee foes from reaching your casters and knockdowns/interupts to keep ranged/casters from using high dmg attacks on them.
In the long run its really just the Wars job to draw that first large spike attack from a mob leaving them weaker for a short time and giving your team time to use there large dmg attacks in the best way possible.

Tanking is fine in DOA and the Deep.. body blocking ftw.
As for everywhere else, it's just not necessary.
